Dubai Culture marks Mid Sha’aban with joyous activities

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for heritage and culture, celebrated Mid Sha’aban with an array of cultural activities across different government entities, heritage sites, public libraries and other locations across the city.
Marking the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Mid Sha’aban falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, and is celebrated by handing out sweets and mixed nuts to children. The celebrations organised by Dubai Culture reiterated the importance that heritage plays in defining Dubai’s rich history, while fostering a genuine understanding of the soul of the city.
Dubai Culture carried out various celebrations for children featuring Areesh tents that highlighted Arabian hospitality, traditional handicrafts, henna painting, Emirati dishes and Emirati folklore performances. The Authority also organised traditional competitions at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Police, General Secretariat of the Executive Council, the Roads & Transport Authority, Hatta Heritage Village and Dubai Museum.
Dubai Culture hosted dedicated activities in Dubai Public Libraries with activities such as ‘Al Barzah,’ a traditional market featuring a mini mart, photography outlet and traditional food at Al Mankhool and Al Tawar branches. ‘Yola’ dance performances were held at the Community Centre for the Elderly.
Al Maktoum Charity Foundation hosted an entertainment programme at Za’abeel Ladies Club featuring poetry, fashion show of traditional attire, games, sweets distribution and song & dance performances.
Each year, Dubai Culture creates custom-made tote bags filled with traditional sweets and mixed nuts, and information on Mid Sha’aban, for distribution to the public with the aim of educating residents and visitors on the customs and heritage of the UAE.
