Dubai Culture joins hands with Tashkeel to host Design Road workshops and exhibition

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, is joining hands with Tashkeel, an independent resource for artists and designers in the UAE, to host a series of design workshops titled Design Road, which aims to encourage intercultural dialogue and creative exchange between local and international designers.
Developed by the Creative Dialogue Association, a private independent and not-for-profit organisation, based in Barcelona, Design Road will feature workshops, seminars and an exhibition to be led by visiting professors and designers from two renowned European design schools including Kingston University London, England and Elisava Design School, Barcelona, Spain. The event will bring together international designers and creative professionals from various disciplines of art, to exchange experiences with local artists and innovators.
Khalil Abdulwahid, Manager of Visual Arts of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “Design Road complements the goal of Dubai Culture to promote intercultural dialogue, and sets a platform for local designers to exchange creative ideas. The workshops and exhibition, under the theme ‘Promote Your City,’ will contribute to further shaping Dubai’s design culture. Through our participation, we will offer the opportunity to Emirati students or recent graduates to be part of this international event.”
The seven seminars held daily, will be presented by visiting international designers and provide opportunities for exchange of ideas and networking between local and international designers.
The five-day workshop will comprise three sessions: Coolhunting Design: Urban Immersion led by Jorge Rodriguez; Exhibition Design led by Rosa Pera Roca; and Retail Design: Tectonic Pattern led by Carmelo Zapulla. The workshops will run from December 1 – 5, 2011, from 2.30pm to 6.30pm, at Tashkeel.
The three-day workshop will encompass four sessions: Event Design: Creative Dialogue led by Samer Yamami; Urban Design: Maps of Extensive & Intensive Urban Public Space led by Christoph Lueder; Curating Contemporary Design led by Gillian Russell; and Motion Graphics Design: the Brand Management in Television led by Antoni Colomer Campos. The workshops will be held from December 3 – 5, 2011, from 11.30am to 6.30pm, at Tashkeel.
