Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) organised a ceremony to honour volunteers who participated in the 2021 ‘Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre.’ Also honoured were the photographers from Akaas Visual Arts, who participated in the ‘After the Theatrical Performance’ exhibition that took place in The Theatre at Mall of the Emirates from 19 – 25 November 2021.

The honouring ceremony was held on 17 February at Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, where Dr Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts and Literature sector at Dubai Culture, honoured 25 volunteers and 10 photographers.

Kharbash praised the artists of the Akaas Visual Arts and festival volunteers for assisting and guiding visitors, saying: “We are pleased to celebrate the volunteers’ tireless efforts. They worked with love and passion and spared no effort to make the public happy, contributing to the success of this event, which witnessed a remarkable success. Their efforts reflected the values ​​of responsibility, public service and community participation that characterise the people of the UAE. They helped organise rooms for practical seminars following the theatrical performances and the entry and exit of audience members, provided people with guidance, answered their enquiries, and ensured everyone’s happiness.”

Kharbash added: “We also value the innovative participation of the creative young photographers from Akaas Visual Arts, who helped highlight the artists on the stage and document the aesthetics of theatrical art by taking pictures during evaluation performances and displaying them during the festival.”

Kharbash presented certificates of appreciation to volunteers and photographers, as well as held a draw to award two Samsung Galaxy phones to two volunteers.

Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre ended on 25 November 2021 and witnessed the wide participation of all National theatre groups across the UAE. Six theatrical performances were presented, including ‘A True Feminine Rib’ (Dole’ Moa’nath Salem), ‘The Box’ (Al Sandouq), ‘Wanted for Waste’ (Matloub lil Zebala), ‘There is Water In My Mouth,’ (Fi Fami Maa’)’, Without A Cover’ (Bila Ghata’a), and ‘The Escape’ (Al Farar). His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, honoured the winners of the festival in the Millennium Theatre at Expo 2020 Dubai.
