du employees bring Ramadan joy to orphans

In celebration of Ramadan’s spirit of giving and in-line with du’s desire to nurture community spirit within the UAE, du invited 25 orphans from the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs to a join its employees and their families for an Iftar and an evening of entertainment at Al Majlis, Madinat Jumeirah, on 24 August. 

The orphans, aged 4-12, were treated to a fun-filled evening provided by talented members of du’s diverse staff and their families and du partners, that included story-telling by its partner Kalimat – the UAE’s first publishing house dedicated solely to publishing and distributing Arabic children’s books, handicrafts workshop by early childhood expert - Ayat Hamdan , environmental awareness fun session in cooperation with The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), du’s Health Safety Environment (HSE) team, and a fun-filled session with Balloons. Each child was handed over a special gift to mark Eid.  

During the course of the evening, other activities were also held. Alaadin Shajrawi – electromechanical technician from du technology team, entertained colleagues and their families to a collection of Islamic Nasheed (Islamic songs). Luma Jasim, Vice President - Corporate Communications, du, hosted a quiz competition for the orphans and children of du employees who attended the evening. 

“To see a child’s face light up with excitement and happiness is doubly rewarding in Ramadan,” commented Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du. “We believe that it is important to nurture community bonds and to foster family relationships throughout the Holy Month. Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs is a worthy cause with objective that aligns with our own to assist UAE nationals to realise their full potential, and it has been a pleasure to integrate these orphaned children into our extended du family on this occasion, to give them an exciting evening and a gift for them to rejoice during Eid.” 

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to its employees, every Ramadan du invites all staff to attend an Iftar event. This year, the employee and their families’ Iftar events took place on 23 August and 24 August at the du-sponsored Al Majlis at Madinat Jumeirah.
