The Doha International family Institute takes part in the First Arab States Regional South-South Development EXPO

The Doha Family International institute participated in a special Session Organized by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States Regional Centre in Cairo titled ‘Network for Economic Empowerment of Women in the South: Arab States Chapter’.

The meeting was held on the 20th Feb 2014 at Sheraton of Doha, where Senior program Specialist, Ms. Aida Abu-Ras delivered a presentation on Business Opportunities/challenges for Women in the Arab Region that Shed the light on the evolution of the entrepreneurship and how it influenced women's perspectives on development moving them from the margin to the center by allowing them to gain a sense of control over their lives.  

Ms. Aida explored various opportunities that play a role in supporting the position of Arab women involvement in Business such as increased education rate in the Arab region, availability of vocational trainings and capacity building programs In addition to the increasing role of NGOs and civil Societies increasing in empowering women in the region. On the other hand, Ms. Aida discussed some challenges that face business women including how women are perceived by the society and how they perceive themselves. 

The presentation was concluded by providing some policy Recommendations such as adopting family policies, and calling for a revision of existing laws such as, labor, economic, and social security laws.
