The Contractors and Consultants Classification, and Engineers Registration Office in the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) held a workshop with the contractors in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi highlighting the Classification system and the requirements to comply with the new system.
The Contractors and Consultants Classification, and Engineers Registration Office gave a presentation on the objectives and registration mechanism in the office, stressing the importance of the role of the Office in organizing the construction sector and the benefits it brings to all parties involved. At the workshop the contractors exchanged opinions and viewpoints with the Contractors and Consultants Classification, and Engineers Registration Office about the requirements of the classification process.
Mr. Hasan Al Dhaheri the Manager of Contractors and Consultants Classification, and Engineers Registration Office Office called on the un-classified contractors to get their requirements ready for classification and reiterated the office keenness to offer all help and support needed to on facilitate the process of classification
Al Dhaheri stressed on the important role that the classification system is playing in terms of strengthening the regulations of the contractors sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Referring to the positive impacts of applying the obligatory classification system and saying that the highly significant contractors sector makes a significant contribution to the local economy.
At the end of the workshop the office confirmed the necessity of registering the contractors in the Classification, and Engineers Registration Office before the deadline which was given at the 21 of November 2014, otherwise those unregistered companies will not be able to renew their trading permits.
The Contractors would be classified under seven categories, each having different requirements in terms of financial standing, the number of engineering staff and their years of experience, accounting staff, previous projects carried out in each activity to be classified, health and safety record, quality and environment standards, with a "special grade" classification being the highest and grade number six at the end of the scale.
It is worth mentioning that This workshop is the third of its kind so far this year and comes within a series of seven workshops to be organized in 2013 to enhance awareness among contractors about the importance of the classification process and its positive impact on the contractors themselves, citizens and the local economy in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
