DEWA to demonstrate reduction of losses in electricity networks

A high level delegation from Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will attend The 4th General Conference of Arab Union of Electricity in Doha, Qatar, and seminars on investment opportunities in industries related to the electricity sector in Arab nations and the Seventh Exhibition of Electrical Equipment and Installations in the Arab World.
This conference is organized by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and the Arab League, to be held in Doha during 7-9 January 2013.
The delegation is headed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of DEWA.
The delegation includes HE Ahmad Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and from DEWA, Hussain Essa Ibrahim Lootah, EVP of Transmission Power, Rashid Bin Humaidan, EVP of Distribution Power, Waleed Salman, EVP of Strategy & Business Development, Ahmed Abdullah, Deputy Senior Manager of External Communications. By invitation of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, the delegation will participate in the conference with a keynote speech to outline DEWA’s pioneering experience in reducing losses in generating, transmitting and distributing electricity.
DEWA has achieved results that rival and even beat benchmarks for the private sector, surpassing 10 of the best European and American companies in efficiency, availability and reliability. Network line losses were recorded at 3.49% compared to 6-7 % for the European and American companies.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then.
