DEWA jointly receives double-award of Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, today personally accepted the Sword of Honour in Safety and Globe of Honour in Health from the British Safety Council during the Sword & Globe of Honour Winners’ Presentation Luncheon 2012 at the Mansion House in the City of London, England. Al Tayer dedicated these two Awards to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“This is the fifth Sword of Honour that DEWA has been awarded by the British Safety Council, and the first time we have achieved the Globe of Honour. I am delighted that our efforts and strategy have been recognized with this international accolade and benchmark of our commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment,” said Al Tayer on receiving the awards.

Staff from DEWA also presented at the Best Practice Exchange for 2012 Sword and Globe of Honour Winners on its milestone achievements in the field of Health and Safety. Dr. Taufik Omeish, Senior Manager for Health, Safety and Dr Bassam Mrayyam, Senior Manager for Environment both co-presented on ‘SMART’ objectives to manage risk, improve, maintain and sustain health and safety standards and to improve competence, productivity and the work environment.

The Sword of Honour is awarded to member organisations for their exemplary management of health and safety. The Globe of Honour is awarded for excelling in environmental management worldwide.

Al Tayer led DEWA’s delegation to receive the awards, which included Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support, Dr. Taufik Omeish, Senior Manager for Health, Safety, and Dr Bassam Mrayyam, Senior Manager for Environment.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then.
