DEWA participates in Our Desert is in Our Eyes campaign

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in the Our Desert is in Our Eyes campaign organised by Al Bayan Newspaper in collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis, Watani Programme, and Dubai FM to celebrate the 16th National Environment Day; held under the theme of The Desert is Pulsing with Life, and supporting its efforts to preserve natural resources, protect the environment and spread awareness among the community.
The campaign aims to educate community members about the importance of keeping the desert clean, and urge individuals to clean polluted areas to preserve and protect natural resources.
“Led by our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, and in line with the long-term national initiative ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we work on promoting the concept of sustainable environment. Therefore, we consider protecting the environment and preserving natural resources in our various developmental projects. DEWA is keen to minimise the use of conventional energy resources and promote renewable and clean sources to further drive the sustainable development of Dubai, reduce its carbon footprint, and spread awareness on the issue of climate change,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“Our sustainable projects, including Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and DEWA’s Sustainable Building in Al Qouz, represent our commitment to achieve environmental sustainability and highlight our expertise in promoting renewable and clean energy resources. Our efforts achieved the highest ranking by winning the Globe of Honour for the environment, which was awarded by The British Safety Council. DEWA is the first utility in the Middle East to win this award. DEWA is also the first organization in the Middle East to win the Five-Star Certificate in the Environment category. Today, DEWA leads the region in preserving natural resources to create a better future for generations to come,” concluded Al Tayer.
Khawla Al Mehairi, VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications at DEWA, assured the importance of preserving wildlife, and urged community members to act responsibly and positively when visiting the desert and observing its wildlife. Al Mehairi pointed out that preserving and cleaning the desert reflects the respect and attention UAE Nationals and expatriates pay to the environment.
Visitors can participate in the Our Desert is in Our Eyes campaign by taking photographs of their camping site before and after cleaning it and sending them to Al Bayan newspaper to win great prizes.
