Department of Municipal Affairs discuses Abu Dhabi International Building Codes with a Qatari delegation
As a step designed to reinforce the building and construction sector, and to upgrade the procedures for the process of building permits issuance, the Department of Municipal Affairs hosted Qatari delegation headed by Khalid Abdul Rahman Al Saad, head of the Engineers and Consulting Offices Accrediting Committee of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning of Qatar. The delegation included representatives and experts from the government departments from different sectors in Qatar.
The Qatari delegation gave a detailed presentation about the structure and the functions of the Engineers and Consulting Offices Accrediting Committee, which includes representatives from different sectors in the country, as well as the procedures, requirements and the methods used in the process of accepting and registering the engineering consultancy offices, both the local and international ones. The classifications of the engineers pass into three categories, first, second and third. It is based on the results of the evaluation process during the interview and the degrees of the engineer and the years of experience in the field of his\her specialization.
Mr. Mohammed Al Hadrami, Advisor of the Municipal Governance Sector in the DMA, gave a presentation about the municipal system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the regulatory role played by the DMA to improve municipal services that are offered to the residents, investors and visitors of the emirate. The presentation included DMA’s plan to improve the building and construction sector in the emirate, and the efforts made by the three municipalities, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality and the Western Region Municipality.
Representatives from DMA and the municipalities spoke about several issues regarding the construction field. Fatma Mostafa Amer, PE, Consultant of Building Codes and Construction in the Municipal Affairs Governance Sector, Eng. Yasmeen Sami Saadah, Acting Division Director of Municipal Regulations, Eng. Bakhita Almur Alshamsi Division Director of Building Permits in Al Ain City Municipality and Eng. Khalfan Al Mansouri Division Director of Building Permits in the Western Region Municipality. One of the main topics which were discussed by the previously mentioned group is the Abu Dhabi International Building Codes, which enhance the levels of health, safety and security in the buildings which in turns provide better life for the people. Added to that, the codes reduce the construction costs, the energy consumption and it extend the lifetime of the buildings.
