Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort and Spa Awarded Green Key Certification
In light of its environmental responsibility toward the local community and the area in which it operates, Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort and Spa – part of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) – was awarded the Green Key certification in August 2016. The Green Key is a global certificate for environmental protection that is granted to hotels, restaurants, recreational facilities, conference centers, campsites and hostels for a period of one year after successfully adhering to specific national and international criteria.
Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort and Spa attained this certificate upon successfully passing an audit process covering a wide range of criteria, starting with environmental requirements, the policies adopted to meet these criteria, and the availability of labor, education and communications plans that correspond with the requirements of the Green Key certification.
“We’re extremely proud of this great accomplishment by Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort and Spa. This comes as a confirmation of our commitment to upholding our environmental and social responsibility, as well as our contributions toward supporting environmentally friendly tourism. In addition, receiving the global Green Key certification reflects our vested interest in raising awareness among both resort guests and staff on the importance of protecting the environment and preserving its resources,” commented Area General Manager of IHG Dead Sea Properties, Firas Irsheidat.
The Green Key certification is a leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operations within the tourism industry. It represents a commitment by businesses that their tourism establishments adhere to the strict criteria stipulated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The award aims at raising awareness and creating behavioral changes in guests, staff and suppliers of individual tourism establishments, as well as at increasing the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable methods of operation in the establishments. The evaluation process is built on numerous criteria including, but not limited to, environmental management, staff involvement, corporate social responsibility, water and energy consumption, waste management, indoor environment, environmentally-friendly activities, and green areas.
