The Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) is holding a public seminar entitled “Migrant Workers: Ethical Perspectives on Challenging Questions” on April 22 from 6pm to 8pm. CILE, a member of Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, will be hosting the seminar in the LAS building at Qatar Foundation.

This event is part of a series of public seminars and lectures organised by CILE, combining both scholars of the Islamic Law/text and “scholars of the context” in one forum to tackle the critical issues of the day in various fields and professions, namely, methodology, bioethics, environment, politics, food, psychology, economics, education, media, arts and gender issues.

The seminar will discuss migrant workers’ living conditions, and will provide suggestions to improve their situation in the light of the higher objectives of Islam/Maqasid Al-Shariah and the universal values.

The seminar’s participants include Sheikh Dr Ahmed Raissouni, President of the League of Sunni Scholars; Mr Boyko Atanasov, Program Director in the American Center for International Labor Solidarity; and Dr Musab Al-Khair, Professor at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies in Qatar University.

CILE is specialised in Islamic legislation and ethical thought with a focus on applied ethics. With a vision of reform and renewal guided by the fundamental principles of the Holy Qur’an, Sunna and the higher objectives of Islam/Maqasid, the center aims to provide a methodological and theoretical framework that leads to concrete contributions and practical applications and in the process transforms reality to bring about a more just and ethical world.
