Charity dinner for the benefit of public kindergartens in Aqaba

InterContinental Aqaba Resort organized a charity dinner in partnership with Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), in which the proceeds were donated to restoring and renovating public kindergartens in Aqaba. The successful event took place outdoors at InterContinental Aqaba Resort, and included speeches delivered by Mr. Mazen Abu Sakha, General Manager of InterContinental Aqaba Resort, Jeppe Jensen, CEO of Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), as well as live entertainment and dinner.

Mr. Mazen Abu Sakha, General Manager of InterContinental Aqaba Resort, said: “We, at InterContinental Aqaba Resort, have always been active with regards to humanitarian and charitable activities and initiatives. And after the success of many of them, we thought it was time to take a bigger step; hence, organizing this big event. We decided to donate the money collected to public kindergartens in Aqaba, because we strongly believe that children deserve to start their educational journey on the right foot.” Mr. Abu Sakha added: “We are very pleased that Aqaba Container Terminal decided to be partners with us on this very important initiative. It shows that we all share the same outlook with regards to the youth and education.”

Aqaba Container Terminal

In 2003, the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), on behalf of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, was on a mission to acquire a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency, capacity and the operational performance of the container terminal in Aqaba. After signing a Terminal Management Contract with ADC in 2004, APM Terminals (part of the global A.P. Møller–Maersk Group), took over the management and operation of the terminal.

A 25-year Joint Development Agreement (JDA) was signed between ADC and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) in 2006. Under the contract, APM Terminals Jordan operates, manages and markets ACT in addition to executing the Master Plan, which anticipates achieving a drastic increase of throughput capacity through a combination of physical and operational improvements.
