Community Development Authority and TamQuest Entertainment bring smiles to 10,000 labourers

The Community Development Authority (CDA) launched a number of initiatives during the holy month of Ramdan, aimed at promoting the spirit of giving and sharing as a part of its efforts to strengthen communication and cooperation amongst  individuals in the society. 

'Smile on the Face' falls within the  Honour Labour initiative, launched in May 2012 to support labourers' develop their skills and provide them with an array of social services. Held in cooperation with TamQuest Entertainment,  Smile on the Face targets 10,000 labourers in Al Quoz, Sonapur and Jebel Ali. Volunteers from the Authority as well as the private sector and non-profit organizations have played a key role in supporting this initiative by distributing personal items such as toiletries  and meals to them. The age range of these volunteers went from 6 – 60 years old. 

Dr. Omar Al Muthanna, CEO Social Regulatory and Licensing Sector: "Ramadan is a great occasion for individuals to spread the spirit of tolerance, giving and helping others. The CDA is  keen on participating in various religious and community events through the launch of initiatives and events that promote national identity and social cohesion and emphasize the principle of unity and coexistence between the various nationalities that reside in Dubai." 

The Authority has launched a blood donation drive for Thalassemia patients during the holy monthin cooperation with the Welfare of Mankind and Dubai Health Authority.. 

Additionally, the Authority plans on holding an Iftar for blue collared  workers, conducting useful social and awareness sessions for them in association with Indian and Pakistani Societies in Dubai, and Dubai Kerala Muslim Cultural Center in Dubai, and sharing Eid Al Fitr celebrations with them by helping them send email greetings and congratulatory cards to their families. 

The Authority has also  planned visits to prisoners during the holy month and Eid Al Fiter days, and will support them to establish communication with their families in association with involved entities.

​​​The Community Development Authority (CDA) was founded by a decree of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in July 2008. CDA is responsible for setting up and developing a framework for social development, and aims to achieve the goals outlined in the Dubai Strategic Plans.
