BTEA’s Handicrafts Directorate Honors the Participants of Its 'Traditional Wooden Chests' Workshop

The workshop was facilitated by 7 trainers and covered the basic skills of making traditional wooden chests.

In line with its continuous efforts to preserve Bahrain’s traditional crafts and handicraft industries, the Handicrafts Directorate at Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), distributed certificates to its ‘Traditional Wooden Chests’ workshop participants at Al Jasrah Handicrafts Centre on the 18th of February 2019.

The workshop was conducted by the instructor Abdulrasool Al Buri, which was held from 13^th of January until the 7^th February. The workshop was facilitated by 7 trainers and covered the basic skills of making traditional wooden chests, in order to encourage more individuals to enter this handicraft trade. This course was the first of various levels of training, which all aim to establish professionals who can contribute to the local market.

“We are delighted to host the “Traditional Wooden Chests” training workshop, in line with our efforts to support and give interested people the necessary skills to make high quality products that can withstand industry competition on local and regional levels,” said the President of Al Jasrah Handicrafts Centre, Mr. Yasser Al Sayed.

The workshop comes as part of a series of training courses launched by the BTEA; as part of the various courses hosted throughout the year by trained instructors from different fields which aim to preserve Bahrain’s traditional industries for future generations.

Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BETA)

Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority was established in 2015 under the Royal Decree number (76) for the year 2015 issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain. Whereas the first clause of the Decree number (10) stated that an authority should be established under the supervision of the Council of Ministers

In 2015, BTEA started its operations under the Decree number (9) for the year 2015 to append the Tourism Affairs to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce based on the recommendation of HRH Prime Minister and under the law number (62) of the year 2016 to establish and regulate the Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority (BECA) and the Decree number (1) for the year 1985 to establish a Supreme Council for Tourism, and the law number (15) for the year 1986 to regulate the Tourism sector amended by a Law by Decree number (12) for the year 1994.
