Aqaba Container Terminal inaugurates internet café for seafarers

The Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) inaugurated the first internet café in the terminal area to serve the Crew of the vessels that go ashore.

"Mohammed Raed" Tashtoush mission to seafarers manager , Melissa Blake COO ACT and Emad Alyoum  project manager at ACT attended the opening ceremony.

“We wanted to offer a distinctive service to the seafarers, one that allows them to stay in touch with their friends and families by utilizing the different communication methods available at the relaxed and cozy café,” said Mr. Soren Hansen, CEO of ACT.

The café is equipped with a sound isolating system to provide silence and tranquility for its users. It is also provided with four personal computers connected to the internet service, five prepaid phones, wireless internet connection where seafarers can connect directly with their personal laptops, in addition to a several disks for reading and Souvenir shop . Furthermore, the café is supported with an air conditioning and heating system.

“ACT is always keen on providing value added services for its clients in order to enhance its leading status. We really hope that our café will be of benefit to our valued customers” Hansen ended.

Aqaba Container Terminal

In 2003, the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), on behalf of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, was on a mission to acquire a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency, capacity and the operational performance of the container terminal in Aqaba. After signing a Terminal Management Contract with ADC in 2004, APM Terminals (part of the global A.P. Møller–Maersk Group), took over the management and operation of the terminal.

A 25-year Joint Development Agreement (JDA) was signed between ADC and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) in 2006. Under the contract, APM Terminals Jordan operates, manages and markets ACT in addition to executing the Master Plan, which anticipates achieving a drastic increase of throughput capacity through a combination of physical and operational improvements.
