Al Hilal Bank gave special attention to children this middle of ‘Shabaan’. the 15th day of the eighth month (Shabaan) of the Islamic lunar calendar, by observing the traditional Arabic practice of giving out ‘Haq Al Lailah’ (حق الليلة) or sweet treats such as chocolates. The bank will include ‘Haq Al Lailah’ festivities as part of its annual mid-Shabaan calendar of events thereafter.

During mid-Shabaan, it is customary for many Arab children to sing folkloric songs and then knock on their neighbors’ doors to receive Haq Al Lailah.  Al Hilal Bank celebrated the tradition this year by decorating all its branches and distributing Haq Al Lailah gifts to children wearing traditional Emirati clothing, with the most interesting and iconic dresses rewarded with prizes. Souvenir photos were also taken to capture the joyful spirit of the occasion.

An added treat was the presence of ‘Hala’ and ‘Nassour’ who welcomed the young participants. The two are the official mascots of Al Hilal Bank’s newly opened ‘Seghaar’ children’s branch. Al Hilal representatives explain that initiatives such as the celebration of Haq Al Lailah reflect the bank’s mission of giving importance to children and providing them with unique experiences during special moments such as mid- Shabaan.

“While Shabaan is a Holy Month for reflection and sacrifice, it also provides an opportunity for children to partake in many Arabic traditions and appreciate their unique heritage. Through our annual ‘Haq Al Lailah’ activities we aim to raise awareness on the importance of mid-Shabaan among children and let them feel joy during this special season. This forms part of our collective efforts to increasingly put children at the fore of Al Hilal’s activities and plans,” said Maryam Yousuf Ahli, VP for Marketing and Corporate Communication, Al Hilal Bank.

Al Hilal Bank recently opened a full-fledged ‘Seghaar’ branch for children dedicated to preparing a new generation of financially literate youths. The bank is committed to directing more attention to children and helping them achieve their full potential to become productive members of society.
