Al Bustan Centre and Residence turned off its lights for an hour last March 31st, in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). By spending an hour in the dark, Al Bustan Centre and Residence joined millions around the world who send a powerful message about preserving the planet for our future generations.

Last year’s Earth Hour was the biggest in terms of participants with a record of 135 countries and territories joining the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off their lights to show their support.  People from all walks of life across the world came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Al Bustan Centre & Residences have been supporting the Earth Hour initiative for the last four years. We believed that everyone is responsible to take an action in protecting the earth and to find solution to the threat of global warming. Our little effort when combined with what the rest of the world was doing created a big impact and I am glad that our staff and hotel guests have supported this campaign!”

During Earth Hour, the hotel turned off the outside garden lights, hotel entrance lights, hotel entrance signage board lights, outside building lights, swimming pool lights, fountain lights, tennis court lights, car park lights, all offices, back areas and guest corridor lights. The team also notified the shops to dim or turn off non-essential interior lighting or use candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants. Earlier, they sent letters to the rooms to inform the guests about the property observing Earth Hour.

Al Bustan Centre and Residence is making environmental improvements to cater to the demands of environmentally conscious travellers. As it celebrates its 15th anniversary this month, the team has increased its dedication and commitment to environmental sustainability.
