As part of its Responsible Awareness Program, Al Bustan Centre & Residence, the popular hotel-apartment among tourists and businessmen in the heart of Dubai, recently organized a blood donation campaign in association with Dubai Blood Donation Center, committed to providing a safe and adequate supply of blood to all DHA Hospitals and private hospitals in Dubai.

Senior management, employees and the staff came forward to fulfill the humanitarian cause and a total of 23 units were collected.

Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer of Al Bustan Centre and Residence, said: “Blood is vital for life and there is no substitute for it. In the UAE, one in every four patients brought to the hospitals are in urgent need of blood. We, at Al Bustan Centre & Residence, understand that clinics and hospitals constantly require reliable blood supply for a wide range of circumstances. Since blood can be acquired only by donation, this is our small effort of giving back to the society and to make a difference to someone’s life. And of course, it is associated with a feel good factor knowing you have helped change a life. It was an extremely easy and safe process and we look forward to holding more drives as such in the near future.”

A healthy individual can donate a pint of blood containing red blood cells every 56 days or double red cells every 112 days. There are four types of transfusable components that can be derived from donated blood. These are red cells, platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate. Normally, two or three of these components are produced from a pint of donated whole blood; hence each donation can help save more than one life.
