5th Fazza Basketball Wheelchairs Championship

Al Bustan Centre & Residence, the popular hotel apartment among visiting tourists and businessmen in the heart of Dubai, recently hosted the stay of athletes of the 5th Fazza International Basketball Wheelchairs Championship, for the fourth consecutive year, held from 18th to 25th April 2013 at the Al Ahli Club, Dubai.

The tournament is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council. It is being organized by the Office of Tournament Fazza, Dubai Club for Disabled, Dubai Sports Council and UAE National Paralympic Committee. This year’s tournament witnessed the participation from more than 87 athletes from all categories of dynamical disabilities from eight different countries.

Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer, Al Bustan Center & Residence, said “We are honored to be selected as the official Residence for the 5th Fazza International Wheelchairs Basketball Championship. The tournament recognizes the importance of promoting sports among athletes with disabilities. Thani Juma Berregad, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee Fazza’ Championships complimented the endeavors of the esteemed partners and sponsors who have emphasized, through their physical and moral participation, the importance of involvement of various community organizations to drive progress and optimize performance.

The tournament is sponsored by Pepsi, Enoc, DP World, Emirates NBD and Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). 

Fazza International Wheelchairs Basketball Championship was started four years ago with only five countries from the Gulf region. It moved further west with the participation of Jordan and Iraq and last year had three new countries in Japan, Australia and Malaysia taking part. This year Germany, Turkey along with new entrant China are taking part.
