The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM), in collaboration with the Waste Management Center – Abu Dhabi (Tadweer) has held a campaign aimed at curbing the abandonment of vehicles in residential communities and public areas. Municipal inspectors have issued about 60 offences against owners of such vehicles based on Law No. 2 for 2012 regarding the protection of public appearance, health and tranquillity in Abu Dhabi Emirate along with its executive regulations and amendments.

The campaign, which covered Al Samha, Al Bahya, Al Rahba, Al Shelaila and Al Shahama, is viewed as an endorsement of the consistent and continuous efforts of the Abu Dhabi City Municipality to conserve the optimal profile of the Emirate. It also contributes to eliminating all sorts of eyesores from the city, and accordingly nurturing a clean environment with no optical pollutants.

The Municipality and strategic partners are keen on the continuity of these campaigns to uproot the practice of leaving vehicles abandoned. It aimed to educate the public about the negative impacts of this phenomenon and the importance of keeping their vehicles clean rather than leaving them covered with dust for lengthy periods. It called on individuals who stay for long abroad to cover their vehicles using proper covers to avoid warning or ticketing them. Compliance of community members with the requirement will help preserve the urban and gorgeous outlook of Abu Dhabi city, which requires concerted efforts of all parties.

The Law No. 2/2012 governing the general appearance, health and public tranquillity in the Abu Dhabi emirate and its executive regulations and amendments, the offending vehicle will be slapped with a fine of Dh3000. Once the offender reports to the Municipality, a settlement is offered including the payment of 50% of the fine. But should the offence recurs, the fine will be doubled and daily impounding fees shall apply, depending on the type of vehicle, and the area from which the vehicle is removed. The law applies to all vehicles, trailers, boats and others; all of which can be towed away to the impounding yard at Al Wathba and Al Mafraq Industrial.
