ADM Continues Zahya Development Including Four Bridges Linking With Maria Island

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with Musanda, is continuing construction works in Al Zahya Development Project (ex Nadi Siyahi). The project, which started last January and takes about 540 days to complete, costs approximately 248 m dirhams.

Al Zahya Development Project is part of Abu Dhabi Plan and vision aimed at supporting the infrastructural components and sustainable development besides qualifying districts to cope with the massive growth seen by Abu Dhabi in various fields.

The project underscores the keenness of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities to upgrade the standard infrastructure to reflect positively on the standard of living and development. It is part of the projects aimed to enhance the profile of Abu Dhabi as one of the magnificent metropolitan cities. It strikes the required balance between the living environment and the continued urbanisation and at the same time responds to the requirements of economic and demographic development.

Al Zahya Development Project comprises a link with four bridges aimed to link with Al-Maria Island, and nine traffic intersections. It also provides a safe environment tailored to serve pedestrians and contributes to easing traffic congestions in the area.

The development of Al Zahya can trigger a change in the economic activities through providing suitable infrastructural services in support of the economic and investment projects. The project also contributes to elevating the rental value in the area; which reflects positively on reviving the economic and residential activities, and opening investment avenues in the area and the neighbourhood.

The project aims to upgrade Al Zahya area through redesigning Al Firdoos Street and Street No. 10 as well as the intersecting streets. It also covers the internal sectors between the two streets where the one-way street systems will be applied. Additional areas and pedestrian pathways spanning an area of 122,500 square meters will be provided together with cycling tracks along Al Firdoos Street, Street 10 (2550 meter), and other lanes extending 1360 meters.

The development works include reconstruction and revamping of roadsides, entry/exit points of streets surrounding hotels, Abu Dhabi Commercial Center (Abu Dhabi Mall), and all essential buildings. They also include adjusting all entry points of buildings such that they will match to the international standards and specifications, and abolishing temporary entry points to 73 land plots.

The Municipality will carry out significant changes to the car parking in the area to provide 2048 parking slots instead of the existing parking area with a capacity of 4829 parking slots. The development works also include upgrading the street lighting in the area and shifting to the LED lights system, which will save electricity consumption by as much as 60%.

Upon completion of the development works of Al Zahya, the traffic flow and handling capacity of the area will increase to accommodate the influx of transit vehicles per hour from 4300 to 4800 vehicles per hour. It also involves expanding public areas from 8300 square meters to 14200 square meters.

The Municipality pins much confidence in the understanding of residents nearby the project area and their tolerance of the inconvenience of caused by these works which are intended to complete the project on time. The community’s support to the works of the Municipality and its partners contributes to achieving the expected results.
