ADM Constructs Slipways for Boats, Jet Skis in Abu Dhabi Islands

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality is moving ahead with the boats, and jet skis slipways project within Abu Dhabi Island, in a move aimed at boosting the comprehensive development drive and the ongoing upswing witnessed by infrastructure in the city. It also epitomises the Municipality’s commitment to provide a superior quality of life and leverage the services on offer to the world’s best standards. The slipways project is also intended to offer the best services, bring happiness to all community members and provide service facilities that measure up to the aspirations of the community members and satisfy their needs.
The projects manifest the commitment of the Urban Planning & Municipalities Department to build modern and integrated infrastructure in line with the best international standards thanks to the kind support of our prudent leadership. The projects also come as part of the comprehensive development plan of Abu Dhabi and Suburbs. This would ensure delivering services in keeping with the ongoing development, the rising demographic growth, the extensive economic upswing seen by Abu Dhabi. It would also fulfil the wishes of community members in a record time at par with the latest international standards.
The Urban Planning & Municipalities Department - Abu Dhabi City Municipality - has completed the construction of temporary slipways for boats and jet skils in Yas Island and Al Mina in Abu Dhabi at a cost tag of AED 4,220,218 in 4 months. Yas Slipway remains closed due to the construction works underway and shall be opened later on. Two other temporary slipways in Al Hederiyaat Island and Abu Dhabi Gate 14 costing AED 7,4m were awarded to Abu Dhabi Public Services Company (Musanada), which achieved a completion rate of 90%.
The project is intended to boost the leisure facilities in place, activate tourism and improve the marine sport for citizens, residents and tourists.
Regarding Al Sadr and Al Bahia Permanent Slipways, the Municipality stated that the projects came in response to the demands of the community members. The civic body was keen to involve the private sector in developing and operating these boat/jet ski slipways.
The project includes constructing public slipways at Al Sadr and Al Bahia areas, dry boat docks and a jetty in addition to Musanada commercial services, and a four-star hotel to improve sea-goers’ experience and provide permanent income sources for the project.
The project operation period is 20 years starting from the end of construction works. Al Sadr Slipways costs AED 10,324,650, spanning an area of 8,918 square meters with a floor area of 2,538 square meters; whereas Al Bahia Slipways costs AED 33,733,440 built over an area of 12,939 square meters with a total floor space of 30,022 square meters.
According to the Municipality, the and poised for completion by the end of Q4 2018.
The two projects aim to provide a high level of comfort and premium services to improve the experience of marine enthusiasts and users of such facilities in the emirate. The projects also aim to promote the safe and responsible use of marine slipways and linking the emirate with a network of sustainable public facilities in a way that simplifies the process of offloading and loading of boats.
Upon the completion of the boats and jet skis slipways project, Abu Dhabi will have multiple slipways for sea-goers who can easily offload and load their boats & jet skis in a bespoke and safe environment.
In this regard, the Municipality reminds all community members of the importance of utilising these boat and jet ski slipways in order to protect the marine environment and the general appearance of beaches in the city.
The process of loading and offloading jet skis and boats are detailed in the provisions of Law Number 7 for 2006 issued by the Marine Transport Sector with the aim of streamlining the services offered to users of jet skis. The law prohibits offloading jet skis by anyone under 18 years or offloading jet skis if the rider is wearing a life jacket. A slipway of jet skis shall be closed from sunset to sunrise, and no unregistered jet ski is allowed to dock or avail any of the services on offer. The Municipality called upon all community members to contribute to enhancing the social responsibility towards our shores by adhering to these rules to ensure their safety, preserve our marine environment and maintain the beauty of beaches of the city.
