Abu-Ghazaleh meets Qatari Minister, discusses outcomes of Global Services Forum

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) discussed with HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Qatar's Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage the outcomes of the Global Services Forum which was held under the patronage of Minister Al-Kuwari, UNCTAD XIII president. 

At the beginning of the meeting held in Doha, Abu-Ghazaleh extended his gratitude to MinisterAl-Kuwari for his patronage and attendance at the Forum and the arrangements and facilities provided that contributed to the success of the meetings.

One of the main outcomes of the Forum was the launch of the Arab Coalition of Service Industries in cooperation with the UNCTAD and chaired by Abu-Ghazaleh. Moreover, it was decided to establish the headquarters of the Coalition in Doha. 

Abu-Ghazaleh, who officially presented an application to establish the Coalition in Doha, stressed that Qatar has become a destination for regional and global activities mainly in areas that support Inter- Arab trade in particular and on a worldwide level. 

Al-Kuwari welcomed the establishment of the Arab Coalition of Service Industries’ headquarters in Doha and promised to support it and refer it to the concerned authorities.

Abu-Ghazaleh pointed out that in principle a partnership will be established between UNCTAD and the Arab Coalition of Services while a close cooperation shall be maintained with the World Trade Organization (WTO). 

Abu-Ghazaleh revealed that during the meeting of the WTO Panel formed by the WTO Director General Pascal Lamy with the membership of Abu-Ghazaleh and another 11 experts to identify 21st century trade challenges, Lamy promised to contribute to the Coalition’s success and provide whatever needed to make this Arab-international project achieves its objectives.  

The Arab Coalition of Service industries consists of 22 countries with a population of more than 400 million and aims at joining all service industries with special focus on services in the knowledge society. 

The Global Services Forum was held in conjunction with the 13th conference of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organized jointly by TAG-Org, UNCTAD and the Commonwealth Secretary.
