Abu Dhabi University, celebrating 10 years of excellence, spent AED 91,737,199 on scholarships and financial aid since its inception in 2003

During the first semester of the current academic year 2013 -2014, Abu Dhabi University announced the dedication of 5,579,950 AED to be spent on scholarships and financial benefiting 688 students, and boosting the total amount spent on scholarships and financial aid since the University’s inception in 2003 to 91,737,199 AED. Aimed at awarding and helping students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement and students in need enrolled to study at the University’s Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses, ADU’s Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund has benefitted more than 4,975 students since 2003. Through its wide range of programs the Fund gives students several options that include: the “H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan scholarship”, the Chairman’s scholarship, the University scholarship, the Academic scholarship, the Athletic scholarship and the financial aid program “Sanabil”. 

Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Executive Board, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri stressed the University’s dedication since its inception a decade ago to attracting exceptional students from around the UAE and motivating them through scholarships and financial aid, which has emphasized ADU’s reputation as a national pioneering educational institute. “The allocation of these funds on a yearly basis is an integral part of Abu Dhabi University’s comprehensive strategy. It aims to build a foundation of specialized cadres in different fields and meet the policy agenda of the Government of Abu Dhabi and its Economic Vision 2030, and provide qualified graduates to perform the jobs created by the country’s fast move to a knowledge-based economy,” said Bin Harmal. 

On his part, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University explained that the increase in the number of students benefiting from the University’s scholarship and financial aid programs to 900 students during the academic year 2012- 2013, is a testament to the success of these programs motivating students to achieve scientific and academic excellence. “This increase represents about 23% of the total number of students enrolled at ADU’s campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during that same year”, said Dr. Ibrahim. He pointed out that the allocation of these yearly funds to nurture and encourage academic excellence amongst its students echoes the attention demonstrated by the UAE’s wise leadership to the system of higher education. “It also enhances their confidence in Abu Dhabi University’s stature as a pioneering university that offers various prestigious academic and scientific disciplines and degrees in areas such as engineering sciences, business administration, environment, information technology, languages”, concluded Dr. Ibrahim.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
