Abu Dhabi University raises 6,500 AED for Breast Cancer Awareness

As part of its community engagement activities of the 10th anniversary celebration plans and in a bid to raise further awareness about breast cancer, Abu Dhabi University collected over 6,500 AED to benefit the nation-wide Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. The amount which was donated to the Breast Cancer Bank Account of the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi via the Red Crescent was collected during a one-week long campaign in October that highlighted the risk factors and symptoms of breast cancer, and the importance of self-examination and early detection in providing women who are diagnosed with the best chance of survival.
Commenting on the importance of this significant achievement, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University explained that this initiative is a great testament to our students, faculty and staff and translates their exceptional sense of awareness regarding the importance of organizing and participating in such a noble humanitarian cause. “Community engagement is a fundamental pillar of the University’s philosophy as we continuously encourage members of our ADU family to give back to the community. The Breast Cancer Awareness campaign that was held in October was part of the various social responsibility and community engagement activities that will be implemented throughout this academic year with our 10th anniversary celebration, which focus largely on giving back to the community that supported ADU throughout the past decade”.
Dr. Ibrahim congratulated the faculty, staff and students who participated in the campaign and their astounding success in raising around 6,500 AED for the cause. “This is the third year for Abu Dhabi University’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and we’re looking forward to organizing an even bigger and more successful one next year to raise further awareness against this tragic disease and the importance of early detection”.
On her part, Dina Mohamed HR Project Management Consultant and the Head of the campaign’s organizing committee pointed out that the one-week long awareness campaign included health assessments and lectures by experts and physicians on the risks of breast cancer and it relation to nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle as well as the importance of early detection and self-examinations in beating the disease. “ADU staff, faculty and students were also clad in pink in support of the cause throughout the days of the campaign and many of them took part in recreating the breast cancer awareness ribbon on campus. Moreover, the University campus was also lit in pink in honor of all those who have lost their lives to this disease. I am extremely proud that we were able to educate our faculty, staff, and students, and encourage them to be active and stay healthy, and I’m very honored to have to have been part of this noble humanitarian campaign which supports breast cancer awareness and contributes to supporting those who are fighting against breast cancer."
The ADU breast cancer awareness campaign was organized in cooperation with National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Dolce Café, La Brioche, Al Raha Beach Hotel, Mafraq Hotel, Dunkin Donuts, Yateem Optician, Dr. Nutrition Center and Pepsi.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
