Abu Dhabi University’s Open Day to draw 600 high school students from Abu Dhabi

Around 600 prospective 11th and 12th graders from about 15 high schools in Abu Dhabi will attend Abu Dhabi University’s annual Open Day today (Wednesday). Held on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus, the annual event offers high school students the opportunity to learn more about the various programs offered at Abu Dhabi University in Engineering, Arts and Sciences and Business Administration. Though vibrant informative workshops, ADU’s Open Day showcases more than 21 undergraduate programs and 10 master degrees that are already offered through the University’s different colleges. As well as introducing visitors to several newly accredited programs, scholarship opportunities, and the opportunity to meet students, faculty and staff at Abu Dhabi University to learn about student life on campus.

Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim explained that the Open Day is a staple event in ADU’s academic calendar. “It offers out students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to connect with high school students from across the UAE and introduce them to ADU’s enriching campus life.  It also acts as a gateway that offers participating high schools students an in depth glance into our diverse academic programs that meet the needs of human development and are in accordance with the policy agenda of the Government of Abu Dhabi and its Economic Vision 2030”, explained Dr. Ibrahim.

“The increase in student turnout at Abu Dhabi University’s Open day every year is a testament to the quality of education offered at the University. It also compliments our ongoing celebrations with the University’s 10th year anniversary since its inception in 2003, which incidentally coincides with many great achievements and accomplishments we have enjoyed during the current academic year. For the second year in a row, Abu Dhabi University is one of the youngest universities to enter the ranks of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings, as well as winning the “Best Supporting University for Entrepreneurship” in the UAE and the Arab World during the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Young Business Leaders in its 8th cycle. We’re also actively pursuing international accreditation with The Association to Advance Schools of Business (AACSB-International) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC),” concluded Dr. Ibrahim.

On her part, Laila Kroma, Senior Manager of Admissions, Enrollment and International Relations Department pointed out that the Open Day engages high school students with their university counterparts and ADU’s faculty members, in order to introduce them to the energetic environment of ADU’s collegiate life. She added that the various college interactive workshops will give high school students a chance to identify the fields that they might be interested to pursue during their upcoming university and professional life.

University representatives will also be available to provide students and their parents with informative campus tours to introduce them to all of the modern and state-of-the-art facilities.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
