Huawei on Monday launched its new P9 and P9 Plus smartphones for the Middle East market in Dubai with an aim to set new standard in smartphone photography.
The Huawei P9 is the first smartphone co-engineered with the global iconic brand Leica Camera. The P9's dual-lens camera takes smartphone photography to the next level, allowing people to capture both vivid colours and striking black and white images. Both devices are available from Monday across the Gulf. The Huawei P9 prices starts from Dh1,700.
Top executives of Huawei Consumer Business Group, or CBG, in the Middle East are very optimistic and attach great expectations for the success of the new device of P series. "P9 is going to be a big success and it will change the people's lifestyle," Gene Jiao, president for Huawei Middle East CBG told Khaleej Times at the launch.
Sandeep Saihgal, regional vice-president for Middle East at CBG, said: "P series has its own niche and these devices are beautifully designed and stylish. I think it will be one of the largest selling devices in P series. We are growing every year and taking others market share. I believe the second of the year will be better."
The event was an elegant mix of innovative technology, photography and style. Influencers, partners and media from around the region saw the P9 in action with three workshops highlighting the devices advanced photography features and presentations from Jiao.

Integrating the design values and engineering excellence of Huawei and Leica in a smartphone photography system co-engineered by the two companies, the P9 brings together best-in-class hardware and software, from optical lenses, to sensors, to image processing algorithms, empowering users to capture the highest-quality images.
Key to the P9's superlative imaging capabilities is a dual-camera design that fully unleashes the power of Leica's optical lenses, renowned for precision and attention to detail, and subject to the industry's most stringent quality screening requirements. The 64GB version of the P9 comes in a unique Haze Gold finish, setting new industry standards in industrial design. The Ceramic White version is smoother than the painted bodywork of premium cars.
The P9 comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p display, is powered by the new Kirin 955 2.5GHz 64-bit ARM-based processor for leading-class mobile performance and comes with a 3,000mAh high-density battery.
Huawei also unveiled the P9 Plus, featuring a 5.5-inch Press Touch display and a larger 3,400mAh battery. The P9 Plus also offers dual-IC Rapid Charge, giving users six hours of talk time after a 10-minute charge.
