ALBAWABA - In a rare incident, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia transported 3 giant planes from Jeddah to Riyadh by land over a distance of about 1,000 kilometres. The photos and videos of the transport of the planes without dismantling them as is customary, so the trip was described as “historic”.
Counselor Turki Al-Sheikh, head of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, posted several tweets on the (X) website about the planes' transport, along with photos and videos of the planes in transit, which garnered social media attention due to their size and road transport.
The aircrafts that were removed from the Saudi air fleet five years ago will be used in the Boulevard Runway activities that take place throughout the Riyadh season, according to Arabian Business.
Saudi media reports that the three Boeing 777s would be turned into stores, cafés, and interactive experiences for youngsters in the 140 thousand-square-meter "Boulevard Run" area close to Boulevard City.
The primary hurdle in the transportation of these enormous airplanes is their height, which may reach up to 6 meters. As a result, the aircraft that are carried by enormous trucks will need to travel longer routes.
The General Authority of Roads confirmed that the Kingdom's roads can transport all loads of all weights and dimensions, indicating that Article 23 requires regular dimensions and weights, but extraordinary carry permits can be issued from the website to transport non-divisible loads, Alyaum reports.
The authority noted that Saudi Arabia's massive road network, which ranks first in the world in connectivity, consolidates the Kingdom's position as a global logistics center and facilitates freight and logistics movement in support of Vision 2030's comprehensive reforms.
Counselor Turki Al-Sheikh said in one of the tweets: “Your feelings and joy during the planes’ tour until they reached Riyadh made me very happy and it is not surprising because you are the people of the pure country and the most beautiful country, Saudi Arabia.. Therefore, we will hold a competition for the most beautiful photography of the planes on their way to Riyadh, whether a video or a picture, and you will get a new luxury car.. Show me your creativity and participation is for Saudis only.”
