In accordance with a program announced by Tunisia’s President Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali to make the Internet more accessible to a greater number of his country’s citizens, Ahmed Fiaa, the minister of communication technologies, has announced that personal computers will soon be put to sale at a price below 1,000 dinars ($676).
Speaking at a press conference, Fiaa said average-income Tunisian families would be eligible for attractive loans from the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) in order to acquire computers.
Fiaa also said that the tender for the selection of a second cellular telephone operator will be launched during the second quarter of the year, with the results announced, in July 2001. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
