Passenger traffic at Dubai airport up 10 percent in first half

Passenger movement at Dubai International Airport in the first half of 2002 registered at 7.5 million, showing a growth of 10 percent over the same period last year, while Dubai Cargo Village registered 20 percent growth.  

 

The total number of passengers, registered at 7.5 million in the first half of 2002, compares to 6.8 million last year. Dubai Duty Free (DDF) sales for the first six months reached 511.6 million Emirati dirhams ($140 million). First half sales at Dubai Duty Free edged past the half-billion dirham mark representing a 10 percent increase over the same period last year. DDF is targeting one billion Dh sales by the end of the year. 

 

May and June witnessed the highest movement of passengers with a growth of 15.5 percent and 14 percent respectively. Similarly the most successful months for Dubai Cargo Village have been May and June with 22.5 percent and 22.4 percent growth respectively.  

 

Executively Flight Services has also shown a growth of 17 percent with 1,300 movements in the first six months of 2002, as compared to 1,112 last year during the same period. Dubai International Hotel has also reported a 107 percent occupancy rate in the first half of 2002. — (menareport.com)
