The Palestinian agricultural sector recorded losses of close to $511 million since the beginning of the uprisings in September 2000. The decrease in productivity was a result of destroyed farms, irrigation systems and facilities and the halt imposed on trade by Israeli closures and blockades, reported the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Insufficient rainfall and poor soil quality limit agricultural activity in the West Bank. The region’s produce includes field crops and vegetables in the north, olives in the hills and grapes in the south as well as citrus, beef and dairy products. — (menareport.com)
