(MEBG) - Despite the political tension between Iran and Pakistan the latter is keen to build a 2,500km pipeline to carry gas from Iran across Pakistan to India, reported Gulf Daily News. The building of the pipeline may take four years and will cost more than $3 billion to complete.

The proposed pipeline would provide annual transit fees for Pakistan worth about $600 million, and will cover some of Pakistan’s energy needs.

Iran and India have also agreed to conduct feasibility studies on the pipeline. It would stretch from offshore Iranian gas fields in the Gulf to northwest India via Pakistan.

Iranian officials say Australias Broken Hill Pty Co ( BHP ) and Frances TotalFinaElf are interested in the project.
