(MEBG) – Pakistan’s carpet exports are endangered by the United States’ lifting of sanctions on Iranian carpets. Javid Ar-Rahman, head of Pakistan's Carpet Exporters Association, said that Pakistan would have to find new strategies for boosting carpet sales now that Iran has free carpet export access to the US.
According to Pakistani carpet experts, most of the Pakistani carpets use Iranian and Turkmen designs, and approximately 90 percent of the production are exported mainly to the US and Europe, particularly Germany.
Incomes from Pakistan’s carpet export reached $209 million in the years 1995-1996, yet fell to $194.5 million in the years 1999-2000.
