Owner and developer of the Pearl-Qatar sweeps the board at prestigious industry awards

Four in a row for Qatar-based Group praised by top industry professionals United Development Company (UDC), the Qatar-based investment group and owner and developer of The Pearl-Qatar scooped four awards, including the Judges Supreme Award at the prestigious Construction Week Awards held at the luxurious Fairmont Hotel in Dubai on Thursday, November 17 2005.

 

The glittering annual occasion, organised by the prestigious Construction Week magazine, is the top accolade in the industry, and acknowledges some of the massive projects currently underway in the region.

 

In all, twenty award categories were up for grabs and the nominees were selected and short-listed by the editorial team of Construction Week, Following nomination, an independent selection panel consisting of development professionals and industry peers approved and voted for the award winners.

 

Over 550 contractors and consultants from across the Middle East converged on the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai to participate in the event.  UDC picked up the awards for Major Project of the Year, Project of the Year Qatar, Reclamation Project of the Year, and the Judges’ Supreme Award.

 

“I am truly honoured to accept these awards on behalf of United Development Company,” UDC Chief Executive Officer, Walid Al-Saadi, said after picking up the Prestigious Judges’ Supreme Award. “As the newly appointed CEO, it gives me a great sense of pride that I have joined an award-winning organisation and it is praise indeed to be recognised by such a renowned industry publication as Construction Week. These awards are a true reflection of the dedication and teamwork of everybody connected with UDC and its visionary projects. Al-Saadi headed the top-level UDC delegation to the event which included Abdulrahman Jawhari, GM – Engineering & Construction, David Cannon, GM – Operations, Salim Abdul-Rahim, GM – Sales, Hedwig Vanlishout of Qatar Dredging Company (QDC), and May Walli – Communications.
