A unique Kuwaiti humanitarian drive to help Iraqi refugees ended with a big success at a grand reception held Wednesday night under the auspices of the US first Lady Laura Bush and organized by Kuwaiti's Ambassador to Washington Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah and his wife Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah.
According to KUNA, the Fund-raising reception declared a sum of one million and 60,000 dollars allocated to help as many 400,000 Iraqi refugees registered at the United Nation High Commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) and to rehabilitate children and women who fled Iraq during the years of Saddam Hussein.
Nearly 100,000 Iraqi refugees returned to their country since the downfall of the Baath regime and about 400,000 other are still in different camps supervised by the UNHCR.
