ALBAWABA – OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence research organization, announced banning several Iranian accounts for attempting to influence the 2024 US elections. The accounts used OpenAI to create content aimed to focus on US presidential campaigns.
OpenAI bans Iranian accounts
The company said it banned these Iranian accounts from using the services it provides and will monitor other activities violating the policies and rules, according to Reuters.
The Iranian accounts used ChatGPT, a chatbot and virtual assistant developed by OpenAI, to create articles and social media comments for platforms like Instagram and X. The content generated aimed to influence the US presidential campaigns for 2024 elections.
Storm-2035
OpenAI linked the activity done by the Iranian accounts with Storm-2035, an operation uses ChatGPT to generate content that aims to influence the 2024 US elections, the conflict in Gaza, Israel's presence at the Olympic Games, politics in Venezuela, and the rights of Latino communities in the United States.

The generated content is directed to be shared on diverse social media platforms and websites.
Low impact campaign
After investigating the operation and the recent activities done, OpenAI said the campaign had low impact and engagement on social media platforms and other websites and portals. It is worth noting that last May, OpenAI and Meta announced banning social media campaigns that used artificial intelligence to spread pro-Israel messages on Instagram and Facebook.
As the 2024 US elections approach, the company is expecting more campaigns to be created. Last week, Former President Donald Trump said his campaign was hacked and he claimed Iran was responsible.
