The Oman Telecommunications Company (OmanTel) recently announced that it will offer a toll free service throughout the Sultanate in the near future. The free service will allow OmanTel corporate and business customers to provide a nationwide toll free line for marketing purposes.

The number for the service will start with 800 and the monthly charge for the line with be 10 Omani riyals ($26). Any incoming call, regardless of its origin will cost 30 baizas per minute. Connection and installation are free and OmanTel will offer a three-month trial period for the service, confirmed Executive President of OmanTel Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Wahaibi.

Headquartered in Muscat, government-owned OmanTel is the country’s sole provider of telephony, mobile and Internet services. Full Internet service became available in early in 1997 and after a relatively slow start, usage increased significantly between 1999-2000. It is estimated that Oman’s 2.4 million strong population will need about 500,000 telephone lines by the year 2020. — (menareport.com)
