Omantel, Huawei sign new agreement

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Harthy, Oman's Transport and Communications Minister and chairman of Omantel board signed at his office Monday an agreement worth around RO. 3,4 million with the Chinese Huawei Company to introduce WLL system. 

 

Through the aforementioned system, the Huawei Company will extend fixed phone service to around 200 remote villages and areas in the Sultanate. The vice chairman of the Chinese company signed the agreement for his side, ONA reported.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by Eng. Mohammed bin Ali al-Wahaibi, Omantel Executive President, the Chinese Ambassador to the Sultanate and some company officials.

 

During the first phase of the project, fixed phone service will be extended to 22,000 subscribers residing in around 83 villages, while in the second phase the service will be provided to 25,000.

 

Eng. Al-Wahaibi said the agreement was signed as part of Omantel efforts to provide citizens all over the Sultanate with fixed phone services. He noted the new system provides the same services offered by traditional systems including international calls, accessing the internet, utilizing the fax, rapid rent lines, voice mail and sending the receiving SMS services and others.
