Omani oil well accident causes 2,000 barrel a day leak

A work accident in an Omani oil well has caused 2,000 barrels of oil a day to leak out, according to AFP news agency. The accident that took place on Saturday, July 4, caused no injuries, yet the well was immediately evacuated. 

 

While waiting for US experts from a Texas-based company to arrive to the sultanate, temporary dykes have been erected to control the spill.  

 

The Rulieh 16 oil well is located 120 kilometers northwest of Hajmah, not far from the Saudi Arabian border.  

 

Oman’s oil reseves stands at approximately four billion barrels; the sultanate is an independent producer of nearly 900,000 barrels of crude per day. —(MENA Report)
