Omani Ministry of Education and Cisco Systems Middle East have announced today (Sunday, 8 May, 2005) that they have begun studying the deployment of the second phase of the wireless implementation project in schools in the Sultanate. This was announced during a joint press conference held at the sidelines of ICT Oman 2005.
Cisco System’s, Intelligent Information Network (IIN), which is being implemented in Oman, is an integral part of the Ministry’s e-transformation strategies aimed at building IT skills of Omanis and advancing e-learning initiatives in the country. The E-transformation strategies will also see the development of state-of-the-art infrastructure aimed at integrating and accelerating the process of digital revolution in the Sultanate.
Speaking at the press conference, Mohammed Hamdan Al Tobi, Undersecretary for Educational Planning and Projects, Ministry of Education Sultanate of Oman, said. “Oman’s economic transformation in recent years has been driven by the implementation of the most advanced information and communication technology tools, especially in the educational sector. The Ministry’s focus is to provide the highest quality of education and training to students, reflecting the corresponding change in the national economy, market dynamics and level of competence. Cisco Systems’ solutions play a strategic role in helping us to attain this objective. Cisco’s partnership in this venture is a manifestation of the role that digitisation and e-learning plays in the economic development of Oman.”
Commenting on Cisco System’s role in the e-transformation of Oman, Eyad Al QadiAlqadi, Regional Sales Manager, Cisco Systems Middle East stated, “Cisco System is deeply rooted in the overall digital transformation of Oman. In addition to the wireless implementation project and Cisco’s Intelligent Information Network (IIN), the Cisco Network Academy Program (CNAP) initiatives, which is a comprehensive instructor led global e-learning program in the physical aspects of voice and data network cabling and installation, will also be launched in the Sultanate.
As the main sponsor of the event, Cisco Systems held an IIN workshop during the event exposing Cisco System’s vision of its Intelligent Information Network. Live demonstrations of the Call Centre solution, including video calls using Cisco video telephony advantage (VTA), Video Call to a Call Centre agency scenario as well as the benefits of the Cisco’s world class IP Contact Centre solution.
