The Oman Refinery Company (ORC) recently signed an agreement with Korea’s SK Engineering and Construction (SKEC) for an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for a new Diesel Hydro Desulphurisation (DHDS) plant, reported ONA. The facility will come on stream in early 2004.
The deal will upgrade diesel fuel production at the Mina Al-Fahl Refinery, reducing the Sulphur content in diesel fuel to less than 50 wt ppm. Sulphur emitted to the atmosphere is one of the major pollutants to the environment. Mina Al-Fahl was the Sultanate’s first refinery and terminal located near Muscat.
Established in 1982 with an initial throughput capacity of 50,000 barrels per day, the refinery was designed to meet domestic demand for petroleum products. Operated by ORC, the plant produces liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), butane, jet fuel, and two grades of gasoline. — (menareport.com)
