The Government of Oman is fast tracking the development of a new tourist complex on the shores of Oman, which will encompass five hotels with a capacity of 1,000 rooms.
Undersecretary of Tourism in Oman Mohsin Al-Balushi has re-affirmed government support for the development of Al-Sawadi Resort, the first stand alone tourist destination in Oman.
“The Al-Sawadi Resort will include five hotels with a capacity of 1,000+ rooms in the four and five star categories, golf courses, water-park, restaurants and bars, shopping village and 150-200 private villas facing either the creek or nestled along the fairways of the golf course,” said Chairman of Gato, the German company which designed the plan for the resort, Erich Kaub.
“We are currently short listing suitable hotel management companies and investors to participate in this $216 million development,” said Kaub. “We expect to conclude preliminary talks by end of 2003 and to have management contracts and funding finalized early next year.”
“Tourism in Oman is still in its infancy but with a huge potential for growth, especially now that the government is giving the industry its full backing,” he said. — (menareport.com)
