In spite of a six percent sales rise in the first nine months of 2001, the Bander Al-Rowdha Marina company (SAOG) incurred a net operating loss of 52,000 Omani rials during that period, compared with a net operating loss of OR 31,000 in the corresponding period in 2000, the Oman Daily reported.
The total sales of the company increased to OR 492,900 in the first nine months of 2001, up from OR 465,000 in the corresponding period of the previous year. The company’s total expenditures hit OR 225,000 between January and September 2001. The company accumulated losses totaling OR 922,000 in the first nine months of 2001 compared with OR 854,000 accumulated losses during the corresponding period in 2000.
The Muscat-based Bander Al-Rowdha Marina is a public company, which operates a water sports complex with landscaped beach area, swimming pool and restaurants. Located on the western coast of Oman, the marina has 140 wet berths and 90 dry berths fully serviced by launch and recovery equipment and a marine control tower. It is also equipped with a full service boat yard and a round-the-clock fuel dock station.
It is estimated that the Gulf's recreational boating industry is growing by over five percent per annum. There are about 32 existing marinas and boating clubs in the GCC and a further eight in the planning and construction stage. — (menareport.com)
