An explosion along the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline ignited a large fire early Thursday morning. The cause of the blast has not yet been determined and the extent of damage is unclear.
The blast occurred in the northern Iraqi town of Bayji. US military spokeswoman Josslyn Aberle said the fire had not hit the main export line from Iraq's Kirkuk oilfields to
Turkey, reported Reuters.
Iraqi oil exports to Turkey were halted on Friday August 17, when saboteurs blew up a main pipeline in northern Iraq. The explosion ruptured a portion of the pipeline buried three feet underground and ignited a fire that was eventually contained on Saturday afternoon. — (menareport.com)
