Algeria's state-owned oil company Sonatrach on Monday announced an important oil and gas discovery in Hassi D'Zabat, in the country's eastern Sahara region.
The potential was estimated at 8.3 cubic metres per hour of oil and 1.472 cubic metres of gas per hour at the site, some 50 kilometres (30 kilometres) from the oil-rich Hassi Messaoud field, the company said.
It was the second significant discovery in the region since the beginning of the year.In January, the company announced an oil and gas finding in Hassi Terfa, in the same area.
Algeria, which produces around 811,000 barrels of crude daily, is among the smaller nations in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Hydrocarbons account for some 95 percent of the northern African country's revenues.—AFP.
