The Organization of African Unity (OAU) on Friday, November 16 gave $100,000 (113,000 euros) to the government of Algeria, where more than 700 people were killed in storms last weekend.
OAU Assistant Sectretary General Vijay Makhan also called for solidarity among member states towards victims of the gales and downpours that struck Algiers. He presented a check for the money to Algeria's ambassador to the OAU, Smail Chergui, who called on the international community to give more help to Algeria to allow it to overcome the tragedy. — (AFP, Addis Ababa)
