Please note that it has come to my attention that news reports are circulating regarding the awarding of the Saudi fixed licence. For the avoidance of any doubt, I am issuing the following comments.
Batelco and its consortium partners are delighted to have met pre-qualification criteria, for the fixed services licence, as set out by the Regulatory Authority CITC (Communications and Information Technology Commission). We understand that two other bids have also met such criteria.
On Saturday 21st April 07, commercial bids submitted by all pre-qualified parties will be opened by CITC. Batelco today is not aware whether our consortium has secured spectrum for fixed wireless services nor has received any advice from CITC about any approvals given to our consortium to start rolling out fixed services.
We remain confident that we have submitted a competitive bid and look forward to making a substantial contribution to the Kingdom's telecommunications infrastructure and services, should we be the successful consortium.
Batelco will not comment any further on this matter till the opening of the commercial bids on Saturday.
