Egyptian Minister of Environment Nadya Obeid recently announced that a recycling plant for solid waste is being constructed in the city of Ras Al-Barr, reported Al-Ahram daily.
Minister Obeid added that studies are also underway to investigate the possibility of setting up other waste recycling facilities in the cities of Farsko, Zarqa and Kafr Saad.
Such projects are part of Egypt’s campaign to improve methods of waste disposal, which are currently informally or semi-formally organized.
Waste management is a high environmental policy priority in Egypt, where presently the most common way of dealing with solid waste is open dumping. — (MENA Report)
