The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (Jica) recently discovered gold and copper reserves in the Gulf state of Oman, confirmed the director of mineral exploration at the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Salim Bin Hamed Al Busaidi. Approximately four million tons of gold and copper deposits were found in the wilayat of the Yanqul region, reported Gulf News.
In a bid to reform its commerce laws, the Omani government announced in August 2001, its plans to allow foreign companies to carry out mining activities in the sultanate, reported the official ONA news agency. The new legislation would permit international firms to invest in mining for copper, gold, chromium, silver, iron and magnesium. — (menareport.com)
