The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (Jica) recently discovered gold and copper reserves in the Gulf state of Oman, confirmed the director of mineral exploration at the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Salim Bin Hamed Al Busaidi. In a bid to reform its commerce laws, the Omani government announced in August 2001, its plans to allow foreign companies to carry out mining activities in the sultanate, reported the official ONA news agency.
